517 juneteenth weekend (Reo town)

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when the last enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas were informed of their freedom. It is a time to honor Black history, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of equity and liberation.

The 517 Juneteenth Weekend was founded in 2021 by MikeyyAustin as a community-centered celebration rooted in culture, wellness, education, and economic empowerment. Since its inception, the weekend has grown into one of Lansing’s signature cultural experiences, supporting local artists, entrepreneurs, and small businesses while bringing thousands together each year.

Designed as a four-day corridor activation from Thursday through Sunday, the 517 Juneteenth Weekend transforms public spaces into vibrant hubs of connection and celebration. The weekend begins with a wellness-focused Juneteenth Seminar on Thursday, followed by a family-friendly Ice Cream Social on Friday. Saturday features the 517 Juneteenth Festival with live performances, vendors, and cultural programming, and the weekend concludes on Sunday with a Father’s Day Jazz Night honoring Black families, fathers, and elders.

Together, these experiences create a holistic celebration that honors history, centers wellness, and strengthens community throughout Lansing..
