Mid-Michigan’s Largest Hispanic Heritage Celebration
September 17 - September 20, 2026
517 hispanic heritage weekend (downtown)
Hispanic Heritage Month honors the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities, recognizing the richness and diversity of traditions that shape our cities and shared experiences.
The 517 Hispanic Heritage Weekend was launched in 2023 to create a dedicated, community-centered celebration of Latinx culture in Lansing. Led by Hezekiah Trevino, the weekend was created to uplift cultural pride, expand representation, and provide meaningful opportunities for connection, education, and economic empowerment for Latinx artists, entrepreneurs, and families.
Designed as a four-day corridor activation from Thursday through Sunday, the 517 Hispanic Heritage Weekend transforms public spaces into vibrant centers of culture and celebration. The weekend begins on Thursday with a seminar focused on education, culture, and community dialogue. Friday features a dance class and community mixer that brings people together through movement, music, and shared experience. Saturday serves as the centerpiece with the Hispanic Heritage Festival, highlighting live performances, food, vendors, and cultural programming. The weekend concludes on Sunday with a Jazz Night that offers a soulful and reflective closing experience.
Together, these experiences celebrate Latinx heritage while strengthening community connections and activating Lansing through inclusive, culturally rooted programming.
